This is a fascinating fruit, a flowering climbing vine with orange fruit that tastes very sweet. Used as medicine in traditional cultures, it helps reduce nasal congestion and coughs, regulates digestion, treats diarrhea, relieves gastritis and ulcers, and relieves insomnia.

They usually thrive with watering once or twice a week throughout the growing season. They are not drought tolerant and grow best in full sun in the summer and as much light as possible in the winter.

Preferring moist soil, the seeds thrive in warm climates and well-drained soil. Germination time and growth rate may vary depending on growing conditions.

Use sandpaper to smooth the outer shell of the seeds. and soak in warm water for 36-48 hours, changing the water daily. Use a heater to keep the soil temperature at a constant 80-85F. This is a must or it won’t germinate.

As with any exotic seed, patience is required. Germination may take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months, but it is worth the wait!
